Group Bike Rides are Simply the Best

We love group bike rides. Here’s why they're such a central part of our push to get the City to build VAMOS.

#1. Experience pure joy.

Riding in a group at 6-8 MPH is pure joy. You can ride 2-by-2 and talk to people or you can just take in the sights. You cover new ground, find new delightful oddities like alley art, amazing trees, and little free libraries, and you get the dopamine rush that comes with being outside and active.

#2. Paint a hopeful picture of the future.

Group bike rides illustrate what it will be like when we build VAMOS and everyone feels confident to go anywhere on a bike. One aspect of this is what we call “bike density.” When there are lots of people on bikes on a street, things slow down, driver behavior changes, and people on porches stop and wave.

#3. Taste the freedom of being able to go anywhere on a bike.

Group rides give people an opportunity to learn the VAMOS routes and to feel empowered to go anywhere. Once you understand how to use the VAMOS map, it’s like having a master key to the city.

#4. Learn how to navigate.

On our group rides, we show people that it’s okay to walk a block on occasion. Getting off your bike and becoming a pedestrian to cross a big street or to walk a couple blocks on Colfax to your destination is totally fine. And if you’re willing to do it occasionally, you can go anywhere.

If you can’t join us on a ride, try your own group bike ride. We have all sorts of fun adventures for you to take with friends, including DIY loops, our citywide scavenger hunt, and...

...our concentric bike beltways.
