Strength in Numbers in Action

We’re at 9,000 miles and 2,750 rides as a community since June, so we’re off to a strong start. But the real strength in numbers is visible when we ride together as a group.

This week was filled with Bike Streets group rides. We led the Jewish Deli Bike Tour (above), the Rockies Game Ride, and the Field Academy Tour of Globeville and Elyria-Swansea.

It’s on these rides that the power of strength in numbers is vividly clear. When there are 50, 25, or even just 10 people on bikes on a street, the street changes dramatically.

It quiets down and drivers choose alternate routes.

It’s a real-world example of the goal of the Bike Streets App: to create a critical mass of people on bikes on a city scale.

Imagine the pink rectangle below is the group of bicyclists in the picture above in Crestmoor.

Now imagine that many bicyclists on streets across Crestmoor and adjacent neighborhoods

And now imagine that many bicyclists on streets across Denver – strength in numbers everywhere you go. People organized, riding the same streets, and making it possible for even more people to ride.

That’s it. That’s the picture we’re trying to create with you.
