Been to Kendrick Lake?

This Monday was a momentous occasion: our first group ride with the Bike Streets app in Lakewood.

For months, we’ve been working with a team of Lakewood residents to map low-stress routes that run from Denver to Green Mountain and Wheat Ridge to Bear Creek Lake Park.

It was incredibly rewarding to ride with this new map on our phones. The first leg was from Keli McGregor Field to Jeffco Stadium.

The second leg was from Jeffco Stadium to Kendrick Lake Park, where we enjoyed the excellent Demonstration Garden of native plants.

Next, we rumbled over to Lasley Park.

And finally, we rolled up to Old 121 Brewhouse, where we enjoyed great beer, great popcorn, and a great conversation about how we can get more people riding bikes.

Old 121 is a Passport Destination and the app stamped our Bike Streets passports.

The geography of Lakewood is very different from Denver: there’s less of a grid and more streets that don’t connect. And yet, we found that there is a low-stress map to be made. Like Denver and so many other cities, there is a high-comfort bike network hiding in plain sight.

So treat yourself to a ride this weekend to Old 121 Brewhouse or any other destination in southeast Lakewood. We’ll be adding more sections of the map in the weeks to come.
