How Suggest Works

Suggest on Bike Streets is how people in any city can work together to create and publish a Low-Stress Bike Map.

Adding a Route Suggestion

To draw a low-stress bike route on the map, go to Suggest, press Add Route, tap and hold on the map at the point where you want to start your route, then tap and hold a second point to create a line. (You can also press, hold, and draw with your finger.) Add as many points as you like to make the line as long and detailed as you want. Press finish.

Voting on Route Suggestions

When you add a Suggestion, you automatically upvote it. Others can upvote it, downvote it, and comment on it.

The app will tell you the number of votes a Suggestion needs to be approved and the amount of time it has to reach that number of votes. If time expires, the Suggestion is removed from the map.

Moderation

Once a Suggestion gets the number of votes it needs to be approved, it goes to the map moderation team – those people who have participated most in map creation. They make a final decision on the route, refine it as needed, and add it to the growing map.

Publishing

We publish a Low-Stress Bike Map in a new location when it reaches the necessary percentage of network coverage – meaning there are enough connected routes to cover a significant portion of the city.
